In the studio
I make handmade ceramics in Cape Town – functional and decorative, from large platters and wall installations as well as pendants and earrings.
I trained in architecture before I found clay, and I still love to draw. I treat a piece as a surface to work on: etched, stamped with textures I cut myself, monoprinted, drawn into with oxides. The forms borrow from botanical structure and from the flora around the Cape.
I work across porcelain, stoneware and earthenware, always exploring new techniques, as variety is what keeps the making alive. What I want most is for someone to pick a piece up and want to keep holding it.
